Marketing an Online Business
As my launch date nears my thoughts have been turning to marketing. I plan to use two methods to market AB Publish.
Firstly by Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). To be frank, this is one of the main reasons I ma placing this blog on the site.
Secondly, I plan to use Google AdWords. I checked on Google's keyword tool for the phrase "make your own website" and they claim the cost per click will be over £3!! Assuming I get one customer per 100 clicks (a reasonable ratio) that means that each new customer will cost me over £300. As I only plan to charge customers a few pounds per month I will have to wait a very long time to get a return on my investment.
So now I have to think of obscure phrases that people might use. I will get fewer clicks per phrase but they should be far cheaper. If I think of enough of these phrases, I should be able to get lots of traffic to my site.
This is the most nerve-wracking and exciting time for a business. I felt exactly the same 4 years ago when I struck out on my own as a web designer.
This project is much bigger though so the tension I feel is very high... as is the excitement!
I'll keep this blog updated as to my success with the marketing. I hope to report back on how you too can use Pay-Per-Click (PPC) marketing in a cost-effective and successful way.
